Cat King, the space owner behind a one-of-a-kind loft space, on where to find the best tacos, coffee, and vintage furniture in Los Angeles.
My name is Cat King I am an artist, writer, actress, and model. I live in Boyle Heights with my boyfriend Cielo Garcia who is a Director, Photographer, Set Decorator, and painter. I moved to Los Angeles two years ago from New York City to escape the harsh winters, Cielo has been in Los Angeles almost nine years. He built both of our spaces out over the course of five years. Both were just bare bones warehouse like spaces and he created two amazing spaces with the utmost attention to detail and love. Boyle Heights is a great neighborhood which is conveniently located right outside of downtown. There is easy access to all of the main freeways as well as public transit. It’s like having the best of both worlds because we have a neighborhood setting but the hustle and bustle of downtown is just a quick walk away.
Coffee Shops: Our favorite neighborhood coffee shop is The Primera Taza
coffee house. The staff is so nice they begin to feel like family. I walk our dog Chola there every morning and have a delicious Latte. If I venture into downtown, my go-to coffee shop is Coffee Colab
, I recommend ordering the Bruce Lee.
Where to grab a quick bite: We love the tacos at Guisados
which is two blocks away and absolutely delicious. We also have one of the best Pizza spots in LA right down the road, Purgatory Pizza
. I love it so much that Cielo got me a shirt from there for my birthday.
Furniture/Design spots: We both live for good thrift finds. The Society of St. Vincent De Paul
is a short drive away and reliable for some great furniture finds.
Book Store: There is a library right on our street which is awesome but my favorite bookstore in Los Angeles is the Last Bookstore
which is super easy to get to from here and located in DTLA.

Galleries: We are located super close to The Arts District
which is stock full of amazing galleries. In Boyle Heights my favorite gallery is BBQLA
Museums: The Broad Museum
in DTLA is one of the most beautifully curated museums I have ever been to. It’s a must- see.

Other: We are only three blocks away from Hollenbeck Park
which is a beautiful place to take a walk. They have exercise equipment, a pond, and a playground for the little ones.
