From the Founders: How to Repurpose, Reuse, and Reinvent Space

This month, Splacer Co-founder and CMO Lihi Gerstner is sharing her modern tips for making the most of your space by repurposing your home, reinventing old space, and reusing space for community.

“In the past, “sustainability” as a buzzword has been associated with reusing plastic bags and reducing carbon emissions.
But as more and more people move to metropolitan centers — 54% of the world’s population lives in cities, expected to reach 66% by 2050 — and as urban rents continue to skyrocket, it’s become clear that we need to expand this definition to include ways in which we can reuse and repurpose our city spaces to make urban life more livable.

Airbnb was really a key motivating force behind this paradigm shift, making people reconsider the way they think about urban spaces by reinventing their homes as temporary lodging for others.

But it’s not just our homes. Spaces that until now seemed to serve one function and one function only — e.g., our offices for working, our restaurants for dining, our museums for gazing — but which lie empty for the good part of the day, have unlimited potential to be repurposed for other, less obvious functions: morphing into a meeting ground to help with networking, a venue to share our talents with the world, a stage for telling our stories, a center for creating a community… the possibilities are endless.
